Currency:
The currency of Serbia is the Serbian Dinar (RSD), which is divided into 100 para. Credit cards and travellers cheques are accepted by most of the hotels and shops in Serbia. There are money exchange machines in Belgrade that accept Sterling, US Dollars and Euros. ATMs in the cities usually accept international bank cards.

Time: Local time is GMT +2 (March to September); GMT +1 (October to February).

Electricity: 220 volts AC. Two-prong round pin attachment plugs as well as Schuko plugs and receptacle are in use.

Communications: The international direct dial code for Serbia is +381. There are local area codes in use e.g. (0)11 for Belgrade. The international code for out of Serbia is 99 followed by the relevant country code (9944 for the United Kingdom).

There are GSM mobile networks available with good coverage in the cities, slightly weaker in the southern areas of the country. Internet cafes are available in the main cities and towns.

Food
Cuisine varies greatly from one region to another. On the whole, the meat specialties are everywhere, and all the food is organic and taste marvellous.
Things to know: Table service is usual in hotel restaurants. Bars and cafes have counter and table service. Smoking
is allowed almost everywhere, but non smoke areas are required by the law.

National specialties:
• Cevapcici (charcoal-grilled minced meat).
• Raznjici (skewered meat)
• Gibanica (special cheese pie)
• Kajmak (soft buttery white cheese)
• Sarma (vine or cabbage leaves stuffed with meat and rice).

National drinks:
• Slivovica (a potent plum brandy).
• Wide range of domestic wines

Tipping: 10 per cent is expected but not compulsory by hotels, restaurants and taxis.

Nightlife: Cinemas stay open until 2300, restaurants until midnight and nightclubs until there are people. Belgrade has excellent nightlife with a range of performance

arts to enjoy: Operas, concerts, theater, many late-night cafes and clubs
